When talking about neighborhoods in Athens, the Peristeri neighborhood is, so to speak, the “Herzliya, Ra’anana, or Kfar Saba of Athens.” It is a sprawling neighborhood home to no fewer than 140,000 residents, boasting lush parks and charming corners, and offering families a high quality of life and well-maintained apartment buildings. It is located in the western suburbs of the city, and while it was once considered a provincial neighborhood on the outskirts of Athens, over the years it has become one of the largest and most popular neighborhoods in the capital.
What will you find in Pristari? High-quality residential buildings, shopping areas, restaurants and cafés, and cultural and recreational attractions, including an amphitheater, sports centers, and numerous parks. The central square in Pristari is Bournazi Square, a large, green square surrounded by numerous cafés and restaurants. The most notable park is Pristari Park, which features expansive lawns, tree-lined paths, an amphitheater that hosts performances and events, a grove of ancient olive trees, a playground, and a café.
Peristeri is located in the western suburbs of Athens, about six kilometers northwest of the city’s historic center. The neighborhood is bordered by two major thoroughfares: Leof. Athinon to the southwest and Kifissia Avenue to the east, which leads to the northern neighborhoods and the highway outside the city. Mount Igaleo lies to the north of Peristeri.
Peristeri is considered to have excellent public transportation access, with Metro Line 2 (the Red Line) serving two stations in the neighborhood: Anthoupoli Station and Agios Antonios Station, as well as an extensive bus network. Peristeri is home to the Kifissos Central Bus Station, from which buses depart for and arrive from the Peloponnese, Epirus, Thrace, Macedonia, and the Ionian Islands. It is one of two bus stations in Athens (the other being Lission) that serve as a hub for these destinations.
