The Gyzi neighborhood in Athens

Gizi is located northeast of Athens’ historic center and is known for its blend of tradition and modernity—making it a fascinating destination for both locals and tourists.

Gyzi

Gizi is a quiet neighborhood where families and students live side by side, due to its proximity to the University of Economics and Business. At the heart of the neighborhood lies the Athens Central Court, flanked by a spacious park. The neighborhood’s name derives from the Byzantine-era name “Gizi.” It is a neighborhood with a rich history spanning hundreds of years and is known for its traditional taverns serving authentic Greek cuisine. It has quite a few cafes and bars and is a popular destination for Athens’ nightlife.

Gyzi, one of Athens’ neighborhoods, boasts a central square (Plateia Gyzi) that serves as the neighborhood’s heart; some might see a resemblance between it and Dizengoff Square in Tel Aviv. The historic "Agios Georgios" church is an important landmark in the neighborhood, and its architecture is a blend of Byzantine and Ottoman styles that reflect the neighborhood’s diverse cultural heritage. The neighborhood is also home to “Pediou Ario” Park, which serves as a “green lung” within the urban landscape. Additionally, Gyzi has a cultural center that frequently hosts art exhibitions, concerts, and theater performances.

Gizi is considered popular among Israeli investors due to its affordable prices compared to the rest of Athens.
