The Kaisariani neighborhood of Athens

Kissariani is part of Athens’ eastern suburbs, along with Ambelokipi, Pegrati, Zografou, and other neighborhoods. This area combines the convenience of being close to the city center with a more relaxed and peaceful lifestyle than that of bustling downtown Athens.

This is one of the most desirable neighborhoods in Athens, offering an abundance of public amenities, universities, schools, parks, and restaurants.

The neighborhood has partially preserved its traditional Greek character, particularly in the area north of the main road (Antistaseos), and is home to many taverns and cafés serving authentic local cuisine. There is also no shortage of places where you can enjoy excellent Greek music.

Historically, in 1922, Kesariani served as a large refugee camp for refugees from Smyrna in Anatolia, later known as Izmir in Asia Minor. The neighborhood’s new homes were built on the ruins of the dilapidated houses that had been used to house the refugees.

Close to downtown, bordering the Pegarti neighborhood.

There is no subway in the neighborhood, but there is a wide variety of bus routes.

The Kesariani Monastery, located on a hillside on the northern slope of Mount Hymettus, is considered one of the oldest monasteries in Attica. The monastery stands at an elevation of approximately 350 meters. It is considered the most visited site in the Kesariani Forest. A botanical garden tended by local nuns is located 100 meters from the entrance.
